Don’t expect another 100-yard game out of Ray Rice on Sunday. No, not because the Ravens again will forget to hand him the ball — though that’s always possible. No, not because the Cowboys will clamp down on him.
It’s because that’s what the stats say.
ESPN.com points out that the previous 14 times Rice has had 100-yard rushing days, he has posted another 100-yard game once. His average follow-up game is about 62 yards.
*More from Stat Island: Courtesy again of ESPN.com — and we can say courtesy because we know ESPNer Jamison Hensley is indeed a courteous fellow — the Ravens lead the league in offensive plays of at least 20 yards, with 30. That’s more than half of last season’s total of 57, which ranked No. 22 in the NFL.
*Remember that training-camp talk about how Sergio Kindle was making good on the potential the Ravens had seen in him when they drafted him out of Texas, long before a series of unfortunate events stalled his career?
Yeah, that does seem long ago.
The linebacker has been active for one game during the regular season. Kindle obviously didn’t make enough of an impression to persuade the coaches he needed to play more — or at all.
"With it being the first time, I wasn’t really myself because I was more worried about not making a mistake than actually making a play,” Kindle told baltimoreravens.com. "That kind of took away from my game. I didn’t do anything wrong that game, but I didn’t do anything good.”
It remains to be seen if he’ll do anything, period, for the Ravens.
