Tom Brady’s new, cut-rate contract with the Patriots — which ties him to New England through 2017, but at way below his market value — could theoretically affect the Ravens’ contract dealings with Joe Flacco.

Brady has just dropped out of the top five quarterback salaries in the NFL, which lowers the number for the exclusive franchise tag, Pro Football Talk reports. Now, the Ravens apparently aren’t planning to put the exclusive tag on Flacco, but if they were, it just got a little less expensive.

The exclusive tag has dropped about $800,000, which puts it below $20 million, though not by a whole lot. The new number is $19.6 million for the 2013 season.

The non-exclusive franchise tag stays the same, $14.6 million.

Maybe someday Flacco will do the Ravens a solid like Brady has for the Patriots, opening up cap space for them. But that someday hasn’t arrived yet.
