The Browns have made a change at quarterback. No, it isn’t Jeff Garcia.

Coach Rob Chudzinski has benched last season’s first-round draft pick Brandon Weeden, and will start well-traveled veteran Jason Campbell.

"It's a tough decision,'' Chudzinski said, as reported by The Plain Dealer. "Obviously, Brandon was disappointed, but he's a pro. I believe this is in the best interest of the team ultimately and gives us the best chance to win. I'm excited to see what Jason will do with this opportunity.

"We're going to evaluate [the quarterback situation] on a week-to-week basis. Again, the whole goal is to put the guy out there that gives us the best opportunity to win. Going back and forth isn’t ideal, but ultimately, finding the production and the consistency that we need is the goal.”

The Browns had found consistency with Brian Hoyer, and the former third-stringer elevated to starter after Weeden sprained his thumb against the Ravens earlier this season. Hoyer retained the No. 1 spot even when Weeden had recovered and went 3-0, but then Hoyer suffered a season-ending torn ACL. Weeden reclaimed his starting job, but Cleveland is 0-4 in his starts.

The assumption is that Weeden -- who declined to speak to the media -- probably is on his way out after this season anyway. He was the choice of the ousted Mike Holmgren regime. The Joe Banner-led front office already has traded away the Browns’ other first-rounder from last year, running back Trent Richardson.

Meanwhile, lucky Campbell gets to start against the unbeaten Chiefs, who lead the NFL with 35 sacks. The Browns are tied for second-worst in the league in giving up sacks with 27.

"It's definitely a challenge. Each and every week is a challenge, but Arrowhead is one of the loudest stadiums in the NFL,'' said Campbell, in his seventh NFL season and with his fourth team. "That means even more we need to be on the same page with our play calls and make sure everyone is hearing it and getting lined up correctly ... when you go into a hostile environment like this you have to make sure we are together and keep our composure."
