Cleveland’s coach says these aren’t the same Browns from earlier in the season. Though the version that played the Bengals in Week 4 wasn’t so bad — after all, the Browns beat Cincinnati 17-6 — Rob Chudzinski brings an altered squad to Cincinnati.

“We’re different in a lot of ways,” Chudzinski said, as reported by the Browns website. “As coaches, we have a better grasp of our guys and understanding of them, what we do. I think our guys have a better grasp of what we’re trying to do from a system standpoint.

“There’s some different faces. Most notably, the quarterback is different. I think that we’re playing better football. I think we’ve improved from the beginning of the season and certainly from that game, as I’m sure they have as well.”

Brian Hoyer was the Browns’ quarterback in Week 4, but he’s lost to injury, and Jason Campbell has been installed as the QB, providing a steady hand. As for the Bengals having improved, well, it’s pretty hard to say that after their back-to-back losses to the Dolphins and Ravens. A Cleveland win would put them a half-game behind Cincinnati for the AFC North lead.

Not that he’s being contradictory or anything, but Chudzinski also said his team wasn’t so different.

“I don’t see a difference in our guys,” he said. “I think that, as we’ve done all season long, they’ve been focused on the game that they’re playing. I think the guys have seen that we can play with anybody if we’re on top of our game and doing the things that we need to do and taking care of ourselves. I think that they’re excited about playing. That’s what I see in them.”

They’re different. But they’re not different. Maybe this is a tactic to confuse the opponent.
