When Orioles manager Buck Showalter was speaking with the media before Friday's home opener and the subject of the Ravens came up, the skipper didn't hesitate in showering compliments on the Super Bowl champs.
"I'm a big fan of them and their winning and the way they do things," Showalter said. "I know Ozzie Newsome, being an Alabama guy. Spent some time with coach [John] Harbaugh and Ozzie, toured their facility. When you're around [see] things like that, you see things don't happen just by chance."
Showalter said he's proud of what the Ravens have done, especially with winning the Super Bowl last February.
The skipper also said that, after spending some time with Harbaugh and Newsome, he can certainly see why the Ravens have had so much success in so many ways.
"They know who they are and they put themselves in a position to have success," Showalter said. "I’m real proud of them, proud of be in a city that they’re a part of. The Ravens mean a lot to Baltimore.”
The Orioles mean a lot to Baltimore also, and both teams gained even more popularity during their respective 2012 seasons as each made the playoffs and got the entire city behind them.
It was easy to see that Showalter wanted to show that he's got a lot of good feelings in regards to the Ravens. Was it in regards to the recent problems between the two teams? Not sure. But it was clear the manager wanted to send out some good vibes. There needs to be some more of that these days.
