EARLY BIRD: Waking up with the Ravens on Wednesday, as they get back to practice.

Two-minute topic: Can the Ravens offensive line protect Joe Flacco from Bills defensive end Mario Williams?

OWINGS MILLS – Williams is tied for second in the NFL with 4½ sacks. Flacco has been sacked eight times in three games.

Does that mean trouble for the Ravens on Sunday? Coach John Harbaugh has confidence Flacco will have time to throw, based on what he has seen from the offensive line so far.

“I would say the offensive line has been excellent with the pass blocking,” Harbaugh said. “When you’ve got a young center (Gino Gradkowski) in there and you’ve got a really young left guard (Kelechi Osemele) in there, and you’re working those guys in, you want to make sure you can protect your quarterback. It’s gotten better week after week. We’ve gone against some really good pass-rush fronts, and I think Joe (Flacco) feels like he’s had some pretty good opportunities to look downfield and go through his progression.”

The Broncos sacked Flacco four times in the opener, but he was sacked just twice against the Browns and Texans respectively. The Ravens are still looking for a consistent offensive performance from start to finish. Making sure Flacco has time to throw Sunday would be a good place to start.

Morning thought: “You’ve got to get off the field on third down and we did that. Hopefully that’s something we’ll continue to be successful at.”
