Ravens will stick to run game

Ravens defensive lineman Chris Canty says his strained groin is improving, and he hopes to play Sunday against the Texans.

“I’m very optimistic, it feels pretty good, so I’ll continue to go about the process and hopefully be able to play,” Canty said.

Canty, running back Ray Rice (hip flexor) and linebacker Arthur Brown (pectoral strain) did not practice Thursday. Canty suffered his injury late in the first half Sunday against the Browns. He tried to loosen up after halftime, but was unsuccessful.

Canty said missing practice this week would not hurt his effectiveness if he played Sunday.

"As a veteran football player, you’ve seen a lot of football," Canty said. "You think you can be ready. I’ve been in this situation before. I’ll just try to be in the best physical condition I can.”

Rice was not in the locker room prior to practice and did not speak with the media. His status for Sunday remained uncertain. Quarterback Joe Falcco sounded Wednesday like he was preparing for the possibility of not having Rice.

“The biggest thing missing when you lose a guy like that is he’s a veteran running back,” Flacco said. “He can I. D. fronts, he knows who he’s picking up in blitz protection, and you can feel confident with him doing that, and he feels confident in doing that. We all know that we’re going to miss his ability out there. But we seem to be dealing with a little bit of injuries this year, and it’s just going to be something we have to adapt to and win some games while we have guys filling in at positions.”
