New Browns owner Jimmy Haslam walks in, brings new CEO Joe Banner, late of the Eagles, with him, and erstwhile club president Mike Holmgren leaves. General manager Tom Heckert figures he’s not long for Cleveland, whatever Haslam may say publicly.

The Plain Dealer reported that Heckert was "not optimistic" about sticking with the Browns, according to a league source, though he worked with Banner in Philadelphia.

As for coach Pat Shurmur and his staff, Haslam said he told them they aren’t lame ducks.

“I just looked them in the eye and told them that,” Haslam told the media Wednesday.  “I told Pat that. I said no decisions have been made. I’m very comfortable saying that.”

But then Haslam said this, which would go into the category of if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, then, yeah, the coaching staff sounds like lame ducks.

“These men are big boys,” Haslam said. “They understand the profession they’re in. They’ve been through it before. They understand it.”

And the Browns fans have been through it before: another organizational shake-up. With the club’s instability on the way to apparent wholesale changes, it sounds like the Ravens won’t need to be worrying about the Browns anytime soon.
