Mississippi wide receiver Donte Moncrief declared for the NFL draft Saturday, adding further depth to a position the Ravens will be eyeing. With Jacoby Jones a free agent, and the Ravens in need of more playmakers, expect the Ravens to consider drafting a wide receiver early, possibly in the first round.
Both Rob Rang and Dane Brugler of CBSSports.com have the Ravens taking Texas A & M wide receiver Mike Evans in the first round of their mock drafts. Evans has size (6-foot-5, 225 pounds) and big-play ability, with 1,394 yards this season as Johnny Manziel’s favorite target.
The Ravens will have either the 16th or 17th pick in the first round, depending upon the outcome of a February coin flip with the Cowboys. Clemson wide receiver Sammy Watkins, highly regarded in many mock drafts, could be gone by the time the Ravens pick. However, Marqise Lee of USC, 6-0, 195 pounds could also be on the Ravens’ first-round radar. Lee missed three games with a knee injury, but if he checks out medically at the combine, Lee’s athleticism could make him an attractive choice.
The Ravens should still have many options if they decide to take a wide receiver later in the draft. ESPN’s draft tracker has 13 wide receivers listed among its top 90 prospects. The wide receiver position is deep in this year’s draft, and that is good news for the Ravens.
