Can Ravens get ahead to take Peterson out of the game?

EARLY BIRD: Waking up with the Ravens on Friday, as they prepare for Sunday’s game against the Vikings.

Two-minute topic: Can the Ravens start another sack streak after getting none against the Steelers?

OWINGS MILLS – When the Ravens did not sack Ben Roethlisberger on Thanksgiving, their streak of 19 consecutive games with at last two sacks was snapped. Defensive coordinator Dean Pees blamed Roethlisberger more than he blamed his pass rushers.

“I’ll give No. 7 (Roethlisberger) some credit,” Pees said. “He got the ball out quick, and he is a hard guy (to tackle) in the pocket. We hit him a bunch; we just never sacked him. I think we had a pretty long-standing string of games with multiple sacks, so we’re disappointed in that.”

Sacks do not tell the entire story when measuring the effectiveness of a pass rush. But the Ravens need to pick things up in December. Terrell Suggs has gone four straight games without a sack. After facing Matt Cassel on Sunday, the Ravens will see Matthew Stafford, Tom Brady and Andy Dalton. How much pressure the Ravens get on those quarterbacks will help decide whether they make the playoffs or not.

Morning thought: “That’s what we’re built for, December football. Ozzie (Newsome) and (John) Harbaugh structure this team for December football. That’s when you decide if you’re going to be a good, or great. We know what’s at stake. We’ve been here before. Now we just got to go do it.” – Ravens safety James Ihedigbo.
