Ravens use all three facets to beat Jets

EARLY BIRD: Waking up with the Ravens, as they get ready for their Thanksgiving night showdown against the Steelers.

Two-minute topic: Can the Ravens (5-6) win two games this week?

The Ravens accomplished step one, beating the Jets on Sunday. Now comes step two, trying to beat the Steelers (5-6) in a Thursday night game with huge playoff implications.

Pittsburgh is red hot after starting the season 0-4, and looked impressive Sunday beating the Browns, 27-11. Ben Roethlisberger (22 of 34, two touchdown passes Sunday) has been playing well, and the Steelers have already beaten the Ravens in Pittsburgh. Losing to the Steelers again would severely damage Baltimore’s playoff hopes. That’s why the mood in the Ravens’ locker Sunday was satisfied, but subdued. They enjoyed beating the Jets, but they were already thinking about the Steelers, and the short week of preparation.

“We’ve dropped some tough ones, and because of those losses, we’re in a place now where every game counts even more,” said wide receiver Torrey Smith. “We have ourselves a chance to live another day, and now we have to go out and win on Thanksgiving.”

Sunday was a good day for the Ravens. Winning again Thursday would make it a great week.

Morning thought: Joe Flacco, on playing in cold weather. “I don’t think I enjoy it. It just is what it is. You just have to adapt to the conditions. I don’t think any of us would be in the NFL if we couldn’t play with a little wind or a little bit of cold.”
