Is it OK to offer a bounty when it’s for the football? If Ed Reed hears from the NFL, we’ll have our answer.
The former Ravens safety, headed to Baltimore on Sunday with the Jets for his second game this season as an opponent, was seen by the media on Thursday sporting a T-shirt that shows a picture of a football on a “wanted” poster. It reads: "Wanted: In the air or on the ground. $20,000."
"No, I'm not offering 20 grand for a turnover," Reed said, as reported by the Newark Star-Ledger. "It's a shirt."
The Jets could use some incentive to pick up turnovers, though. They are tied for last in the league in takeaways.
Though he has none this season with either the Jets or Texans, Reed has 61 interceptions and 13 fumble recoveries for his career. His interception total ranks 10th all-time and the most of any active player. One more would put him into a tie for eighth with longtime Seahawks cornerback Dave Brown and Hall of Famer and venerable Steelers defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau.
