Matt Elam replaced Michael Huff at one starting safety spot Sunday, while Jimmy Smith started at one corner in place of Corey Graham.

Apparently, coach John Harbaugh saw enough that he didn’t like in Week 1 against the Broncos to make lineup changes in the secondary. The Ravens gave up seven touchdown passes against the Broncos, and there were numerous defensive breakdowns.

Huff and Graham struggled in particular.

Graham still saw action during the first quarter as a nickel back, but Huff saw was not a part of the nickel package either.

Elam was the Ravens’ first-round pick and they are high on his talent. He started the game in shaky fashion, getting beat on a long pass from Brandon Weedend to tight end Jordan Cameron. However, Elam is an aggressive player and a better tackler than Huff.

The Ravens may had decided they are better off letting Elam make plays, and living with his mistakes.
