Harbaugh proud of defense's performance vs. Houston
Safety Matt Elam and quarterback E. J. Manuel are putting their friendship on hold this week.
The rookies trained together prior to this year’s draft, before Manuel went in the first round to the Bills, and Elam went in the first round to the Ravens. Both have become starters, and will try to help their teams to victory Sunday when the Ravens visit the Bills.
Elam and Manuel have competed against each other since college. Elam went to Florida, while Manuel went to Florida St. Elam had an interception against Manuel when they faced each other last season. However, Elam said his familiarity with Manuel would not give the Ravens an edge.
“He took his game to another level, he’s not the same E. J. from college,” Elam said. “He’s making better decisions than he did in college. “He’s a cool, laidback guy. He don’t talk a lot. He’s a very mature guy, typical quarterback, great guy. Very positive, a great guy to be around. Never a trash talker.”
Manuel laughed on a conference call when told that Elam talked about last year’s interception.
“He did pick me off,” Manuel said. “I know Matt’s going to be ready, and I plan on being ready as well. I watched him a ton on film these past couple of weeks. Of course I’d love to throw a touchdown on him. He knows that. I’ll try to get that done this weekend.”
