Brent Harris goes one-on-one with Joe Flacco after signing his contract
Now that franchise tags have been applied and, in the case of the Ravens and Joe Flacco, a long-term deal has been reached, free agency is really ready to kick into gear.
Pending free agents can begin negotiating with teams on Saturday, and free agency officially begins on Tuesday. So who, exactly, is out there?
Pro Football Talk has compiled its list of the top 100 free agents, and it includes several Ravens. The PFT list, incidentally, also includes restricted free agents. Those players -- including two Ravens on the list -- must be tendered offers by Tuesday, and the team has the chance to match any offer sheet put forth by another team.
Topping the Pro Football Talk list is Steelers wide receiver Mike Wallace. In fact, three of PFT's top 100 are wide receivers, with Giants receiver Victor Cruz, a restricted free agent, at No. 3, and former Packers receiver Greg Jennings at No. 4. Detroit defensive end Cliff Avril is ranked No. 2.
The Ravens aren't likely to look at any big-ticket receivers, and don't have the cap space to make a lot of big free agency splashes anyway. But you can bet they will be looking long and hard at interior defensive players -- defensive tackles and inside linebackers. During his season-ending news conference, Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome identified those as two major areas of need.
Paul Kruger is the highest rated Raven on the PFT top 100 list, at No. 7. Yahoo's Jason Cole speculated that Kruger could land upwards of $10 million a year in free agency; if so, it won't be from the Ravens.
Cornerback Cary Williams is ranked No. 22 on the PFT list, and like Kruger, the Ravens aren't expected to shell out big money to bring him back, given their cap situation and depth at cornerback. It would be a shock if either Kruger or Williams returns to the Ravens next season.
Other Ravens on the PFT top 100 list include safety Ed Reed at No. 35, linebacker Dannell Ellerbe at No. 39, tight end Dennis Pitta -- a restricted free agent -- at No. 60, tackle Bryant McKinnie at No. 71 and defensive end Arthur Jones -- a restricted free agent -- at No. 98.
