Ravens offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak says he will call plays from the field, not from the coach's box upstairs. Kubiak wants to communicate directly with quarterback Joe Flacco. Quarterbacks coach Rick Dennison will be in the booth, where he can communicate with Kubiak through headphones.

“I plan on being on the field,” Kubiak said following Saturday’s practice. “I’ve done that probably the last eight years, and I have Rick Dennison up in the box. I’ve done both during my career, but I think I’ll be down there with Joe so that I’m there when he comes off the field so we can talk. That’s what we’re doing right now, building that relationship. I see that continuing.

Communication between Flacco and Kubiak will be crucial to the success of the Ravens’ offense. Kubiak repeated Saturday that Flacco’s adjustment to the new offensive system has been impressive so far.

“He’s got to lead the pack and he’s done that from Day 1,” Kubiak said. “He’s got total command of what’s going on. The leaders on the offensive side of the ball, Joe, Ray (Rice), Marshal (Yanda) - those guys, they’re ahead of everybody else. That’s the way it should be.”
