Dennis Pitta dislocates hip, out for season opener
Ravens coach John Harbaugh confirmed Sunday that tight end Dennis Pitta (fractured hip) would miss the entire 2013 season.
“Dennis is out for the year,” Harbaugh said following practice. “It’s the type of thing that he’s not going to be able to come back from this year. There’s enough damage in there.”
Harbaugh said he was not fearful that Pitta would miss part of next season as well.
“It would be really, really rare that it would be something that he couldn’t be back next year on,” Harbaugh said. “I can’t give you the final determination, because we’re waiting on the MRI.”
Harbaugh said Pitta was still recuperating at the hospital following Saturday night’s surgery.
“Dennis is resting comfortably,” Harbaugh said. “There was a little fragment that didn’t allow them to put the hip back in place without doing that (surgery). We’re in the process of getting the MRI now. We don’t know the extent of any other damage, which obviously will determine a lot.”
