Matt Birk, where did you go?

Retired Ravens center Matt Birk was such a model citizen in the NFL that he won the Walter Payton Man of the Year award in his last year in the league, in 2012.

Now, he’s working on being a model, period.

Formerly 310 pounds in order to survive the rigors in the land of massive flesh known as the interior line, Birk has undergone an astounding transformation. As you can see in the photo accompanying this article at BaltimoreRavens.com, Birk is down 75 pounds and 10 inches from his waist, and it appears the only six-pack he’s dealing with these days is his abs.

“I never thought I would pose for a picture with my shirt off,” he told the club website. “But I wanted to show people that it can be done and that we’re all in this together.”

The model part — other than that photo — is that Birk is in the running to grace the cover of The Challenge Magazine 2014 as part of his connection to ViSalus, which makes weight-loss products. (He is not a paid endorser.) Go here if want to vote for him.

“All I knew was being big. Now I’m not so big and I’m loving it,” said Birk. “I think I’ve really developed a lifestyle that I can sustain now. I feel great physically, and I’ve got tons of energy. It really has changed my life that I used to know.”

He has to need that energy. Birk and his wife have six children.

However, there is an economic impact to his weight loss for a certain Mexican food chain.

“I wasn’t going to go to Chipotle and get two burrito bowls at 9:30 at night anymore,” he said.
