The deal is finally done-- linebacker Rolando McClain is now a member of the Ravens.
The team confirmed the news in a press release Friday afternoon, something that's been speculated about for the last several days. It's also been confirmed by the team that this is a one-year deal.
He passed his physical Friday and will join the Ravens after spending his first three seasons in Oakland. McClain played 41 games with the Raiders and posted 274 tackles.
But he also ran into discipline/behavior issues on and off the field, something the Ravens won't want to deal with. However, as many have already said, it's a pretty safe bet that the Ravens are going make it very clear what they expect of McClain.
In addition, he'll get to see a few old friends, specifically Terrence Cody and Courtney Upshaw, whom McClain played with in college at Alabama. They were all on the 2009 BCS National Championship team together under coach Nick Saban.
As written here earlier this week, some are calling this move a gamble, but it doesn't seem that way. He's a big, fast, athletic linebacker who, if successful, will help the Ravens in some way. McClain's shown he can do it before. Now, he just needs to do it again.
If he can't do it again, the Ravens won't have gambled too much on him. Let's see if they still draft a good linebacker high up for some more insurance at that position. Either way, the Ravens are taking some good steps.
