When last we heard from retired Ravens linebacker Brendon Ayanbadejo, he was spilling the beans about a little violation of team rules he committed at last year’s Super Bowl — bringing his wife and two children to stay with him at the Ravens hotel in New Orleans.

Now he’s back with another revelation about Super Bowl Week — except now it’s not about him, and it’s more provocative. But he also doesn’t say which team it happened with, the Bears in the 2006 season or the Ravens last year.

Whoever it was, he said players were smoking marijuana in the team hotel in the week leading up to the game.

Ayanbadejo described it this way on a podcast:

"I'm not going to say which Super Bowl it was, but I just remember getting off the elevator one night — it was early on in the week, just to start the week off — and all of the sudden I just got hit over the head with fumes of marijuana on the entire floor of the hotel that the team was staying on. ... I could just imagine there were a few young guys just toking it up in more than one room.”

He said security was being handled by hired guards rather than police officers, so no one was getting busted.

“Coach was smart enough to have rent-a-cops on our floor instead of regular police like we usually do. I scratched my head, but I was like, 'OK, uh, that's a good thing 'cause … ' that's it. That's all I've got to say about that."

That was one way for players to deal with the stress leading up to the Ultimate Game.
