You might look at the news that Joe Flacco will play Johnny Unitas in football scenes for a proposed movie on the Baltimore Colts great being produced by Johnny U.’s son Joe Unitas and think, “That’s nice.”

But not if you’re John Unitas Jr.

The families from Johnny Unitas’ first and second marriages don’t get along. There has been legal action between them over control of the late quarterback’s image and name.

Responding to the report of Flacco’s selection for the role, John Jr., a son of Unitas’ first wife, laid into Joe Unitas, son of Unitas’ second wife, telling USA Today: "It is awful. … He [Joe Unitas] never talked to me. He never talked to any of the first five children. He's a guy that's just making money off of my father.”

And he’s picked the wrong quarterback to play their father, John Jr. said.

"If you want a quarterback, go with Peyton Manning," John Jr. said. "My father was just like that. This is a joke." He also called the Ravens QB a “goofball.”

John Jr.’s son, J.C. Unitas, piled on Flacco, posting on Facebook: "My grandfather and his legacy deserves only the best, and this is not it. Has Baltimore forgotten that Trent Dilfer also won a Super Bowl while playing for Baltimore?"

Flacco’s agent has not responded to USA Today’s request for comment.
