John Harbaugh discusses Ray Rice injury
Bernard Pierce says he is prepared to carry the load at running back Sunday if Ray Rice cannot play.
Rice (hip flexor) was listed as doubtful on Friday's injury report, along with Chris Canty (groin), Arthur Brown (chest), Brandon Williams (toe) and Deonte Thompson (foot).
It would not be surprising to see Rice miss the Texans game, considering it is only Week 3 and he hasn't practiced all week, and the Ravens do not want Rice to aggravate the injury. That means Pierce could be the workhorse back, a role that he is ready to embrace.
“I feel good, body’s good,” Pierce said Friday in an upbeat Ravens’ locker room. “In my mind, I was never a No. 2 back. Me and Ray rotated, all throughout the game. I’m just out here to try to win.’’
Pierce had 19 carries for 57 yards and a touchdown last week, including several powerful runs when he broke tackles to pick up extra yards. Usually, Pierce is used as a change-of-pace back to give Rice a breather. But against the Texans, Pierce may have an opportunity to get regular touches.
“The more touches you get, the more rhythm you get," Pierce said. "I’m just going to do what I do, continue to try to pound away at the defense and hopefully have a good game.”
