Pitta on return: "I feel great"

(Howard Smith-US PRESSWIRE)

Dennis Pitta has made great strides recovering from hip surgery, but will need a little longer before he returns to game action.

The Ravens chose not to activate Pitta from the injured reserve – designated to return list prior to Saturday’s 4 p.m. deadline. Pitta will not play Sunday against the Jets, and the Ravens have a short week prior to their Thanksgiving night game against the Steelers. The Ravens may wait until their Dec. 8 home game against the Vikings to give Pitta more time to recover and work off rust. Dallas Clark and Ed Dickson sharing the tight end duties against the Jets.

Pitta caught 61 passes last season, but fractured his hip early in training camp. The Ravens miss Pitta at the tight end position, but they want him to remain healthy once he returns. Pitta returned to practice Wednesday, and the Ravens have a 21-day window from that time to activate him.
