Ravens coach John Harbaugh and other staff members and their wives last weekend participated in the grueling Tough Mudder course in West Virginia. As its name indicates, the obstacle/endurance course is covered in mud and features lots of climbing, crawling, splashing and swimming along with running.

The video posted at the Ravens website shows Harbaugh and the others attacking the course with fervor, seemingly exhilarated by the experience and their effort to complete it.

But one day after he apparently attempted the Tough Mudder on the same day, Saturday, as the Ravens crew, an Ellicott City man died. Avishek Sengupta, 28, drown at a part of the course called Walk the Plank, dying at a Virginia hospital on Sunday, the Hagerstown Herald-Mail reported.

“He was an active individual and kept himself in good shape,” Berkeley County Sheriff’s Deputy Sgt. Ted Snyder told the newspaper.

A spokeswoman for the Tough Mudder organizers said this was the first death since Tough Mudder started in 2010, covering about 750,000 participants.

The Herald-Mail reported that about 20 people from the Tough Mudder were hospitalized over the weekend, with two having suffered heart attacks and one other person a potential drowning.
