In addition tocutting kicker Billy Cundiff, the Ravens further trimmed their roster bycutting eight other players on Sunday.Other thanCundiff, perhaps the biggest cut was Davon Drew, who appeared in the running towin the Ravens No. 3 tight end job after training camp injuries sidelined EdDickson and Dennis Pitta. But the Ravens signed veteran Billy Bajema, whovaulted ahead of Drew and now appears in line to be the No. 3 tight end whenDickson and Pitta return. Drew, the Ravens'fifth-round draft pick in 2009 out of East Carolina, had spent parts of twoseasons on the Ravens practice squad and never appeared in a regular-seasongame for the team. The Ravens alsoreleased center Cecil Newton, the brother of Carolina quarterback Cam Newton, and also cut quarterback Chester Stewart, the fourth-string signal-caller who played only sparingly in the preseason. Also cut onSunday were wide receiver Devin Goda, offensive lineman Addison Lawrence, cornerback Jordan Mabin, long snapper Patrick Scales and wide receiver PatrickWilliams.
The cuts Sundayleave the Ravens roster at 81 players. They must have the roster down to 75players by Monday at 4 p.m. That leaves six more cuts to be made before Mondayafternoon, although safety Emanuel Cook (broken leg) and Ryan McBean (brokenankle) could be placed on injured reserve instead. The Ravens playtheir final preseason game on Thursday at St. Louis and then must cut theroster down to the final 53-man squad by Friday.
