Ogden becomes first Raven in Hall of Fame

EARLY BIRD: Waking up with the Ravens on Sunday, Aug. 4, getting ready for this evening’s practice at the Naval Academy in Annapolis.

Two-minute topic: What’s the advantage of having a practice away from the team’s facility?

Like many teams, the Ravens no longer leave town for training camp. They’ve been practicing in Owings Mills, at their headquarters affectionately known among the Ravens as “The Castle”. Only a limited number of fans are allowed to watch training camp at Owings Mills. There isn’t much cheering. Frankly, the atmosphere is almost like a midweek practice during the season. Not much sizzle.

The atmosphere will be different Sunday when the Ravens practice at the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. It’s open to the public, and the Ravens are looking forward to it.

“It will be exciting,” coach John Harbaugh said. “I’m expecting a full stadium down there in Annapolis. The Naval Academy has just been tremendous hosts. We love going down there. We respect everything that the Naval Academy stands for. They have been great to us. We can’t wait.”

So far, Ravens have had crisp and competitive training camp practices. There has been plenty of trash talking between the offense and defense, led by Terrell Suggs and Joe Flacco. However, Sunday will give the Ravens a chance to make plays in front of more eyes, as they prepare for Thursday’s preseason opener in Tampa against the Buccaneers.

“Yeah, it’s something different,” said Ravens cornerback Corey Graham. “A big crowd. We’ll get a chance to play in front of a lot of people (in) a different atmosphere. You always want to get away and do something different, so it’ll be exciting for us to get out there.”

Upcoming Ravens schedule:

Sunday, 5 p.m. - practice at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis

Monday, practice 2:30, coach John Harbaugh, 5 p.m podium

Tuesday, practice 2:30, coach John Harbaugh, 5 p.m. podium
