Ravens maintain healthy outlook

If you listen to some of the talk coming out of the Ravens, it sounds like they have been working on boosting their confidence by looking ahead to a time when everyone is healthy.

Conversely, though they also take responsibility for the team’s performance by whoever has been able to suit up and it’s an NFL truism that everybody has to put up with injuries, you would think the underlying message to themselves is that all of the injuries are a big reason for their underwhelming results in a season of high expectations.

“If we get our defenders back, the better we’ll be,” linebacker Dannell Ellerbe said. “I think we could make a run deep into the playoffs or the Super Bowl.”

Cornerback Cary Williams echoed Ellerbe: “If we get those guys that are injured back, that would be crucial and essential to our success.”

Ray Lewis, Terrell Suggs, Lardarius Webb, Jameel McClain … The names go on and on. (And since coach John Harbaugh got the word from the league about the injury list, the names do go on and on.)

Still, the public stance remains only a slight variation from this by safety Bernard Pollard: “At some point in time, everybody is going to be back. But we’re in this in-between area right now that we have to battle in.”
