In an effort to toughen up the middle of their defensive line, the Ravens are looking at 49ers unrestricted free agent Ricky Jean Francois, The Sun reports.

Haloti Ngata could use the help inside, and Terrence Cody wasn’t able to play with enough consistency to grab hold of the nose tackle position, giving up time to Ma'ake Kemoeatu. But Kemoeatu wasn’t great guns either, and he’s 34.

Jean Francois, 26, has been a backup and situational player for the 49ers, and though it seems odd to say this about a man who’s 6 feet 3 and 295 pounds, he’s actually kind of undersized for an NFL nose tackle. But the Ravens reportedly aren’t the only ones with interest in Jean Francois — the Packers also are eyeing him. Green Bay may be without defensive lineman Jerel Worthy in 2013, after Worthy underwent knee surgery in January.

An unnamed NFL executive described Jean Francois this way to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel: "Solid in-line run defender. Average pass rusher. He'd add good 3-4 defensive end depth and potential base-down starter as a five-technique 'dirty work' player. I'd prefer him more in the rotation than as a [starter]."
