The Ravens will have an interesting choice if both Ha Ha Clinton-Dix of Alabama and Calvin Pryor of Louisville are available with the 17th pick. There is disagreement among scouts as to which free safety prospect is better.
NFL Network analyst Charles Davis prefers Clinton-Dix.
“I want the guy with range, the center field guy, the Willie Mays guy,” Davis said during a conference call. “Not to say that Clinton-Dix doesn’t tackle, he does. Not to say he can’t cover man; hasn’t had to do much of that for Alabama. But I like his range, I like his sideline to sideline play. Can Calvin Pryor do those things? Yeah, but Calvin Pryor to me fits a little bit more closer to the line of scrimmage.
“That’s why I have Clinton-Dix rated a little bit ahead of Pryor.”
During the same conference call, Daniel Jeremiah of NFL Network said he preferred Pryor
“I have them rated very close to one another on my ranking,” Jeremiah said. “I have Calvin Pryor as my 15th overall player and Clinton-Dix as my 16th. Clinton-Dix may be a little more range over the top, but I just love Pryor. I love the physical way he plays the game, and I thought he was plenty capable of making plays at the high safety as well.”
Clinton-Dix could certainly be gone by the 17th pick, and there is a chance Pryor could be gone, too. But if both are on the board, the Ravens’ choice may come down to which safety they like better.
