The Ravens have some holes to fill on defense, especially at inside linebacker, and The Sun was reporting Sunday that they might have some interest in one from Howard.
The Sun reported that the Ravens might be looking at Howard linebacker Keith Pough, who's been a very solid player for a much improved Bison team. Pough was picked as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference's Defensive Player of the Year. NFL.com said he ended the season with 72 tackles and 3 1/2 sacks and four passes broken up.
He's a linebacker who runs down plays all over the field, the kind of guy the Ravens would like to have at inside linebacker. During his younger days, Ray Lewis was especially good at chasing players down all over the place, something that made him so hard to defend at times.
The Sun said he was a four-year starter who ended up with 340 career tackles with 71 for losses, and that he grew up as a Ravens' fan.
It will be interesting to see what the Ravens do to fill the holes left by Lewis and others. If they are in the 3-4, they've got the outside covered already but the stronger they are inside, the better they can be in run defense. That's something which can anchor an entire defense.
Pough seems to be the kind of player the Ravens would like. The team also is looking at many more, and the Ravens need to decide how to fill those holes -- by draft, free agency or even trade. No matter what they do, the team is going to have plenty of options before 2013 starts -- especially since they've already done a good job of making the line and pass rush much better from last year.
