The Ravens walk into Sunday’s game with the Denver Broncos with a few returns to the lineup.
As expected, they won’t have safety Bernard Pollard (ribs) and right guard Marshal Yanda (ankle) -- both absent from practice all week and missing their first game of the season -- but linebacker Terrell Suggs and cornerback Jimmy Smith will play.
Suggs (biceps) missed last week’s 31-28 overtime loss to the Washington Redskins, his first game on the sideline since returning from an Achilles injury in Week 7. Smith, who had taken over for Lardarius Webb (ACL tear), had missed five games in a row because of hernia surgery.
Pollard will be replaced by James Ihedigbo. He had been playing through pain since Week 2, when Pollard was drilled under the armpit by the helmet of teammate Courtney Upshaw as they combined for a sack.
Pollard never returned to that game with the Philadelphia Eagles, but he re-aggravated the injury against the Redskins.
Yanda had to be carried off the field in Washington and wore a walking boot. He is replaced by veteran Bobbie Williams, who started at left guard earlier this season until ankle problems put him on the bench.
Little-used Josh Bynes takes over the “mike” linebacker position as the quarterback of the defense with Jameel McClain (neck/back) declared out earlier in the week. Bynes, in his second season, played only one game as a rookie and has made five appearances this season because of a decimated linebacking corps.
Sunday represents Bynes’ first start.
Tight end Ed Dickson (knee) also is missing his third game in a row.
