NBC is guaranteeing that its new opening for “Sunday Night Football” will sizzle.

That’s not to say it didn’t already sizzle with Faith Hill singing the theme. But we’re not even talking about how it will continue to burn up the screen with Carrie Underwood as the new singer. (Just wondering: Did anyone consider using Joan Jett, whose song, “I Hate Myself for Loving You,” is the basis for “I’ve Been Waiting All Day for Sunday Night”?)

No, the opening will feature Mr. T-Sizzle himself, Terrell Suggs. The Ravens’ team website has a short clip of Suggs performing his part. Crouched inches from a camera, Suggs pounds the floor, smacks himself in the helmet and struts back toward the green screen, thrusting out his chest and bellowing.

Now, we won’t likely hear that bellow each Sunday night, but Suggs, along with the likes of the Broncos’ Peyton Manning and the Texans’ J.J. Watt, will make sure — to borrow a phrase from another NFL night production — we’re ready for some football.
