Ravens prepare for showdown with Patriots

Dec 15, 2013; Miami Gardens, FL, USA: New England Patriots defensive end Chandler Jones (95) celebrates his sack on Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill (17) as defensive tackle Joe Vellano (72) and defensive tackle Sealver Siliga (71) look on in the second quarter at Sun Life Stadium.

The Ravens are not worried about defensive tackle Arthur Jones, who is having his best season. However, the Ravens are worried about Jones’ brother, Chandler Jones. He leads the Patriots in sacks with 11½, and with Joe Flacco expected to play on an injured left knee, the last thing the Ravens want is Chandler pressuring Flacco from the blind side.

Blocking Jones will be the primary responsibility of Ravens left tackle Eugene Monroe, who the Ravens entrust to get the job done. However, Jones’ skills stood out this week when coach John Harbaugh studied film.

“To me, the biggest thing about Chandler is that he’s a tremendous athlete,” Harbaugh said. “He’s really long and he’s got body control, he can get his hips in and out on the pass rush, he can move his feet, he can leverage you, he gets underneath people. There’s not too much he can’t do. He’s also probably I would say, sneaky fast. Because he’s so long, you don’t realize how fast he is. He’s a guy that we really, really liked coming out. He’s better than he was last year, and I think he’s becoming one of the top pass rushers in the league.”

More than usual, the Ravens want to protect Flacco on Sunday. The Jones brothers are close. But the Ravens do not want Chandler getting too close to Flacco.
