Ed Reed said a lot of kind words to the fans of Baltimore and the city at the press conference where he announced his signing with the Houston Texans last week.
He took it to another level on Sunday when the future Hall of Fame safety took out a full-page ad in The Sun thanking everyone for their support during his 11 years in town. The message was simple, to the point and something that fans in the city will love.
Here's what it said: Ravens Nation, My eleven seasons in Baltimore were more than I would have ever imagined, which is why I have such deep love for you all. I will forever cherish my time with the Ravens and the chills that ran down my spine when I finally kissed the Lombardi Trophy.
Special thanks to the City, Team, Organization and all the Fans! I'm going to miss being a part of this tremendous team and organization, but I'll always be Baltimore and my Foundation will remain in this community. this is not a goodbye, but a See You Soon. Thank you for everything Baltimore, God Bless you. ED REED #20
Other players have done things like this, but it's something they don't have to do. Reed clearly loved the city, loved the team and loved this area. It's one of the sad things in sports when someone who's been somewhere a long time has to -- or wants to -- go somewhere else. But that's what happened here.
It probably was time for Reed to move on. But he wanted to make sure he said something to the fans and city. Nice touch, Ed.
