The Ravens have made no secret that they might draft a backup quarterback, and A. J. McCarron of Alabama could be the guy. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, McCarron will visit the Ravens on Wednesday.

Current Ravens backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor is in the last year of his contract, and coach John Harbaugh wants to bring in competition. McCarron won two national championships at Alabama, where Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome also played collegiately.

The Ravens are unlikely to take a quarterback during the first two rounds. But McCarron could last until the third Round, or even the fourth Round 4, where the Ravens have two picks. McCarron’s playing style is more similar to starter Joe Flacco than Taylor. Even if Taylor remains the backup next season, the Ravens could begin to groom McCarron as the future backup if they like what they see.

Of course, drafting McCarron would also bring the attention attracted by his fiancée, Katherine Webb. A story about McCarron and Webb possibly getting married in July was posted Monday on

A union between McCarron and Webb seems imminent. We’ll see if the Ravens decide to join with McCarron as well.
