The Ravens have decided to hire Wisconsin running backs coach Thomas Hammock as their running backs, according to CoachingSearch.com. Hammock would replace Wilbert Montgomery, who was fired as Ravens running backs coach after the season.

Hammock, just 32 years old, has been Wisconsin’s running backs coach for three seasons. He was a star running back at Northern Illinois before a heart condition ended his playing career. He then went into coaching, working with running backs at Northern Illinois, the University of Minnesota, and Wisconsin. Hammock was also an offensive coordinator for one season with Minnesota.

One of Hammock’s star pupils at Wisconsin was Montee Ball, who just finished a promising rookie season with the Broncos. Under new offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak, the Ravens hope Hammock will be part of the solution to fixing a running game that struggled mightily in 2013.
