Ray Rice’s arraignment conference for aggravated assault has been set for April 28, according to a spokesperson for Atlantic City (N. J.) criminal court. At that time, Rice will be formally notified of the charges he faces and may enter a plea.

If convicted of aggravated assault, Rice could face a between three to five years in prison. However, as a first-time offender, Rice could avoid jail time altogether and be eligible for a pre-trial intervention program. Regardless of how the legal issues play out, Rice may also face discipline from the National Football League in the form of a suspension.

The charge stems from an altercation between Rice and Janay Palmer on Feb. 15 in Atlantic City. Rice and Palmer married on Friday, and Ravens coach John Harbaugh continued to be supportive of Rice on Tuesday, speaking to the media prior to a coach’s clinic at the Ravens’ practice facility.

“Ray’s situation will be addressed,” Harbaugh said. “There’s a timeline, and consequences for actions. I really respect what Ray is doing since and how he’s handled it and the steps he has been taking. When you learn what those steps are, you’re going to be proud of him, too. Nobody is perfect. Nobody sitting in this room is perfect. There are plenty of people out there with stones in their hands. Plenty of stones have already been tossed.”
