In some eyes, Te'o moves back up

Former Notre Dame linebacker and noted fake girlfriend mourner Manti Te’o apparently is starting to slide back up on mock draft projections. Both of ESPN’s main Draft Experts, Mel Kiper Jr. and Todd McShay, place him in the latter part of the first round. Te’o had dropped into the second round in some estimations.

So he remains someone who could be available when the Ravens pick at the end of the first round.

This week, Te’o ran the 40 again at Notre Dame’s pro day, apparently motoring a bit faster than his disappointing — called it “lumbering” — 4.82 at the NFL Scouting Combine in February. Will that have any impact on NFL teams’ evaluation of him?

At, for one, Chris Burke is not impressed.

“At this point, there is very little mystery when it comes to his game. He is not the greatest athlete you’ll ever see, nor is he capable of shifting positions — like so many other linebackers in this draft class — and playing outside in a 3-4 or 4-3. …

“Te’o presents as a decent but not elite prospect. … [He is] a draftable prospect, possibly even a first-rounder for a linebacker-needy team. But does one decent 40 at his pro day offset shaky outings against the likes of Alabama and Pittsburgh?”

And that isn’t even taking in account how much weight the Ravens or another team want to put on the bizarre Internet girlfriend story.
