Steelers have edge -- in remaining schedule

Not to get ahead of ourselves, but let’s get ahead of ourselves. How do the schedules of the Ravens and Steelers stack up for the rest of the season after Sunday?

Taking a snapshot of the NFL standings heading into Week 11, it looks like this: The Ravens face three teams with winning records among their final six opponents, while the Steelers face only one — and that’s the Ravens in a couple of weeks.

Excluding each other, the Ravens have the toughest remaining opponents, the Broncos in Week 15 and the Giants in Week 16. Peyton Manning has been looking more and more like Peyton Manning as the season has gone on in Denver.  And though the Giants are scuffling at 6-4, that’s just their usual November doldrums. You don’t want to take on the Giants in December, especially when they need wins for playoff position.

The Steelers do face three teams in a row that are 4-5 right now — the Chargers, Cowboys and Bengals. Conceivably, all three could have winning records by the time the Steelers face them. The Chargers have been known to go on late-season runs, and the Cowboys … well, who can figure them out?

Still, the make-up of the two teams’ schedules adds even more urgency — as if this game needed any more — for the Ravens.
