With actual football or at least the preseason version of it being played, were not hearing nearly so much about progress on Joe Flaccos new contract. From one corner, the opinion is we wont be hearing about one anytime soon.
At Pro Football Talk, Mike Florio writes that Flacco wont have a new deal before the Ravens begin the regular season. Asked if there had been any recent movement, the quarterbacks agent, Joe Linta, told PFT: Not really. Joe is happy playing it out.
Linta added, however, that hed still talk to the Ravens at any time.
It could be this wait-and-see will end up costing the Ravens more money. Not that theyd be unhappy to see their quarterback enjoy more success, but if the offense uses the no-huddle mode weve seen in preseason, its entirely possible Flacco will put up better numbers this season than he has before. And if Flacco ranks near the top among quarterbacks statistically on top of helping take the team to the playoffs in each of his four NFL seasons hell rate a contract with plenty of zeroes.
Flaccos deal pays him 6.76 million this season. For him to reach top five status, which Linta has said he deserves, that would more than double.
