Harbaugh: Ravens will be ready for the Browns

EARLY BIRD: Waking up with the Ravens on Tuesday, with the NFL trade deadline at 4 p.m. EST.

Two-minute topic: Will the Ravens make a trade before the deadline this afternoon?

The odds are against the Ravens making a move, and the NFL trade deadline usually passes without much action. However, if Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome made a deal, it would probably involve adding a wide receiver.

Coach John Harbaugh was evasive as one would expect Monday, when asked if he anticipated the Ravens making a deal.

“I wouldn’t comment on that anyway if I did, so it’s probably best just to stay away from that,” Harbaugh said.

Two wide receivers that have been linked to the Ravens in rumors are Justin Blackmon of the Jaguars and Kenny Britt of the Titans. Britt has had off-field issues, and his play this year has been a disappointment (eight catches, 67 yards). The Ravens would likely pass on Britt, even if the price was not that high.

Blackmon (29 catches, 415 yards) would be a more likely addition, but he would also be high risk. He was suspended the first four games of this season for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy. He is one strike away from a possible one-year suspension. While the Jaguars have been shopping him, they might not find any takers.

Hakeem Nicks of the Giants seems less likely to be moved as well, with the Giants (2-6) having won two straight. So if the Ravens (3-4) are going to turn around their season, they will likely do it with the receivers they already have.

Morning thought: "He's a guy that can take it the distance, really, at any time. We saw him in practice today. He looked good. He had a good start, and we'll see how it goes." - Harbaugh on Ravens running back Bernard Scott, who was signed on Monday.
