After a disappointing season, fingers will be pointed. And sometimes, to avoid having any fingers pointed back at them, players will point anonymously.

That has happened in Pittsburgh, where the Steelers are coming off an 8-8 season with no playoff berth. Via Ron Cook of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, an unnamed Steeler ripped linebacker LaMarr Woodley.

"He was awful. He tells us he works out, but we didn't see it. He wasn't in shape. That has to be a reason why he was always hurt," the player said.

Cook lays into Woodley, too. Mentioning how the linebacker appeared in an ESPN The Magazine photo in which he and the Browns’ Trent Richardson and the Seahawks’ Marshawn Lynch recreated a Run DMC album cover and how much preparation went into it, Cook writes: “It's nice to think Woodley will devote the same energy this off-season to his day job.”

Cook describes Woodley as looking “heavy and slow” last season, in which he recorded just four sacks. Woodley has been slowed by injuries, particularly to his hamstrings. Of course, that gets back to the anonymous rip, “That has to be a reason why he was always hurt.”

Woodley isn’t that far removed from the defensive force — Ravens fans, you remember — who recorded nine sacks in eight games in 2011. But a subpar year for the team  puts everyone’s subpar year in the spotlight. Even if you don’t quite know which of your teammates is holding that spotlight.
