After the Ravens beat the 49ers last week, the talk slowly began.
A few questions came up in post-game media session with coach John Harbaugh and various players. The words started to come up that many there have to be thinking about: home playoff game.
The Ravens have yet to play a home playoff game under Harbaugh. They want one badly. Theres no question that any NFL team is better at home. You can put the Ravens in that category.
They are now 6-0 at M&T Bank Stadium this season and 2-3 on the road. If the Ravens can win the AFC North, theyll get at lease one home playoff game, and that would make everyone there happy. But if they can snatch the conferences top seed, every game until the Super Bowl would be right here.
Don Banks of SI.com wrote some interesting points on this subject over the weekend.
If the road to the Super Bowl in the AFC goes through Baltimore, the rest of the conference could be in trouble, Banks wrote. Weve seen what John Harbaughs Ravens can do on the road in the playoffs, but they desperately want the AFC North title and the conferences top seed this season because they are fully aware how much their home turf means to their Super Bowl chances.
Banks brings up a good point about winning on the road in the post-season. The Ravens have done that, in places like New England, Kansas City and Tennessee. Now theyd like to have a chance to play at home.
Harbaugh wants the Ravens to keep their minds on Cleveland first, as the teams meet in Ohio on Sunday. But theres no doubt everyones looking ahead a bit.
But its December football, and thats when you start thinking about things like that, Harbaugh said after Thursdays game. But the only thing we need to be focused on is getting healthy, first of all, and the Cleveland Browns.
