Gonzaga (D.C.) quarterback Nick Johns has committed to Virginia, the 2015 prospect announced via his Twitter account on Tuesday morning.
Johns is rated as a three-star prospect by Rivals.com, a 6-3, 215-pound quarterback who chose Virginia over Maryland and NC State.
I am committed to play quarterback for the University of Virginia. Again, I want to thank all of the coaches who recruited me. #HOOS— Nick Johns (@nick5johns) May 6, 2014
Johns’ commitment to Virginia on Tuesday has some other recruiting implications for the Terrapins, as Randy Edsall and staff continue their pursuit of Gilman (Md.) quarterback Kai Locksley. Locksley, the son of Maryland offensive coordinator Mike Locksley, is considering a handful of high-major programs including the Terrapins, Florida State, Oregon, and others.
Come 2015, Maryland will be looking to fill a need at quarterback. By then, C.J. Brown will have graduated and will likely be succeeded by then-senior Caleb Rowe. Perry Hills would be a redshirt junior, Shane Cockerille would be a redshirt sophomore, and 2014 signee Will Ulmer would be either a sophomore or redshirt freshman if he does not ultimately switch positions.
Maryland still has only one commitment in the Class of 2015, three-star offensive lineman E.J. Donahue of Fredrick, Md.
