Terps 2013-14 schedule revealed, Reed commits
Trayvon Reed nearly committed to Maryland on Friday night, despite not having seen the school's campus.
He made the trip to visit College Park this week and on Thursday gave his commitment to become the fourth member of Maryland's 2014 recruiting class, Comcast SportsNet can confirm.
Reed, a 7-1, 210-pound center from Georgia, joins Romelo Trimble, Dion Wiley, and Jared Nickens in coach Mark Turgeon's 2014 class.
Reed gives Maryland what it was looking for to round out its 2014 class--a big man. He will still need to be acclimated to the college level, but his ceiling is high as a potential impact player down the line.
He is athletic and runs the floor well for a seven-footer and can block shots. His offensive game will still need work, but it is difficult to find a player with such elite size and athleticism.
Many believed the Terps had narrowed their view to Reed and Riverdale Baptist (Md.) center Chinanu Onuaku, another potential impact player in the post.
Reed's commitment makes it likely that Onuaku will look elsewhere. Louisville has recently shown more interest in the 6-10 big man and teammate of Trimble with D.C. Assault.
Maryland was already in the nation's Top 5 recruiting classes before Reed's commitment and could make more of a jump after it.
As a reminder, Trimble and Wiley will take part in the Under Armour Elite 24 game in Brooklyn on Saturday at 7 p.m.
