Maryland guard Dez Wells took to Twitter on Wednesday afternoon to show his support for UMass's Derrick Gordon, the first openly gay male D-I college basketball player.

The two players, who came to college from the high school Class of 2011, were both ranked in Rivals.com's Top 150 for that year.

Gordon is a native of New Jersey and a sophomore at UMass. On Wednesday, he publicly announced the fact that he is gay. This past season, he averaged 9.4 points and 3.5 rebounds per game.
