Perhaps it was a sort of introductory NBA course for Phoenix rookie center and former Maryland big man Alex Len. If it was, it will now cost him.
The NBA has fined Len an amount equal to about two years of in-state tuition at the University of Maryland, $15,000, for an incident that occurred Wednesday night in Phoenix, the league announced.
Len gave a hard foul to Lakers guard Nick Young in the middle of the second quarter of the Suns game vs. the Lakers, sending Young tumbling to the ground. Young took exception to the foul and bounced to his feet to let someone know about it, shoving Len and inciting a small scuffle.
Young and Len were restrained and both were ejected. You can watch the events here.
Young has been suspended for one game and Len's teammate, Marcus Morris, has been fined $25,000.
Len was selected No. 5 overall in the 2013 NBA Draft by the Suns. He is averaging 1.6 points and 2.4 rebounds in 6.6 minutes per game so far this season.
