Former Maryland linebacker Shawn Petty, who famously filled in at quarterback during the 2012 season after a string of injuries decimated the depth chart in front of him, will transfer to Marshall, according to Grant Traylor of The Herald-Dispatch.

Petty announced his intentions to transfer in February, not long after Maryland's Military Bowl loss to -- fittingly -- Marshall.

He registered 24 tackles for Maryland this past season, including six in a 20-3 loss to Syracuse in November.

But Petty's time at Maryland will most be remembered for the valiant effort he gave under center in the face of those season-ending injuries to a long list of Terrapin quarterback options. In 2012, he quarterbacked four games, completing 46 percent of his passes for 500 yards, including six touchdowns and two interceptions.
