Another former coach with ties to the Maryland program is moving around at the NFL level, as the Miami Dolphins announced Tuesday that Mark Duffner would join the franchise as the team’s linebackers coach.
Duffner was the head coach at Maryland from 1992-96. He comes to Miami after spending eight seasons in Jacksonville, also as a linebackers coach.
“The opportunity to join a franchise like the Miami Dolphins and work with Coach Philbin was one that I could not pass up,” he said in a statement, before thanking the franchise from which he departs. “Our time spent in Jacksonville provided us with countless special memories that will last a life time.”
During Duffner’s time at Maryland, he compiled an overall record of 20-35, including 13-27 in conference play. Upon leaving College Park, he took his first NFL job as a linebackers coach with the Cincinnati Bengals in 1997.
He has worked in the professional ranks since.
