Four-star Gilman (Md.) quarterback Kai Locksley has committed to Florida State, the senior announced via his Twitter account on Thursday afternoon.
His high school program also congratulated him on the pledge.
Locksley, a dual-threat quarterback ranked as the 12th-best player at his position, chose the Seminoles over Maryland and Texas. The big recruiting draw for Maryland? Locksley is the son of Maryland offensive coordinator Mike Locksley.
The elder Locksley has coached his other two sons at the Division I level, Michael Jr. during his tenure at Illinois and Meiko when he was the head coach at New Mexico, and the four-star QB would have filled a need for Maryland at quarterback.
With sixth-year QB C.J. Brown leaving the program after this season, there would have been an opportunity for Locksley to compete for playing time in College Park against Caleb Rowe, Perry Hills, Shane Cockerille, and Will Ulmer. All four after Brown are currently listed as quarterbacks for the 2014 season.
